The batsman sustained the injury while scoring a match-winning 107 not out in the final one-dayer against Pakistan in Karachi last weekend.
Meanwhile, opener Virender Sehwag will undergo a fitness test on Thursday before he is added to the squad for the Test beginning in Nagpur on March 1.
He returned home midway through the one-day series in Pakistan due to a shoulder injury.
