Yousuf sets Pakistan up

Mohammad Yousuf's outstanding batting form continued as Pakistan batted itself into a position of strength on the second day of the first Test against the West Indies in Lahore.

By stumps, Pakistan was 265-4, 59 runs ahead with six wickets in hand.

Yousuf was 107 not out, his sixth century of the year and the 20th of his career. Earlier Mohammad Hafeez carried on from his overnight score to reach 57 before he was trapped leg before wicket by Jermaine Taylor.

Inzamam-ul-Haq lasted only eight balls before he was bowled by Dave Mohammed.

But Shoaib Malik joined Yousuf and they added 125 runs in their unbroken fifth-wicket stand until bad light stopped play.

Yousuf had two chances the West Indies didn't accept, when on 43 when he was dropped by Daren Ganga in the gully and a caught and bowled chance to Taylor just after he passed 100.

Pakistan also had the benefit of more benign pitch conditions, although the batsmen had to work harder to play the ball around as the track got slower.

The slower tempo suited Yousuf who was able to play his natural game by accumulating at will. His half-century took 67 balls while his century took 179 balls and included 13 boundaries.

Taylor ended the day with 2-67 while Mohammed had 1-31.
