Windies win for Lara

The West Indies have beaten India by 19 runs in the final one-day international of the series to give captain Brian Lara a fitting farewell at his home ground in Trinidad.

Lara himself was run out for 36, but with man-of-the-match Dwayne Bravo top-scoring with a quickfire 62* and Chris Gayle (51) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (52) both posting half-centuries, the home side made 6-255 from their 50 overs.

Opener Virender Sehwag then scored a sensational 95 off just 103 balls for the Indians, but he lacked support through the middle order with Mahendra Dhoni (14), Rahul Dravid (18) and Yuvraj Singh (26) all making starts but failing to go on with it

Jerome Taylor then put the Windies on top with three wickets in four overs, including the vital scalp of Sehwag, and while Ajit Agarakar (21) and Harbhajan Singh (26) battled valiantly through the lower order, they were unable to keep up with the required run rate.

Taylor himself finished with 3-39 to help his side to a 4-1 series win, the Indians losing their final three wickets for just six runs.

Earlier the West Indies made a terrible start, opener Sewerine Chattergoon bowled with his first ball by Ajit Agarkar, but Gayle and Sarwan rescued the inning, putting on 90 for the second wicket.

Lara then hit Harbhajan Singh over his head to the delight of his home fans in his last one-dayer in Trinidad, but he slipped taking a run shortly after and was caught short of his ground.

Bravo then smashed 62 off just 44 balls, while Wavell Hinds added a valuable 32 at the end. Agarkar was the pick of the Indian bowlers with 2-44 from his 10 overs.
