White Ferns defeated

The White Ferns fell to a seven-wicket defeat to Australia in the opening ODI of the 2007 Rose Bowl Series in Darwin.

The New Zealanders fell to 44 for five, with Southern Stars bowler Clea Smith returning an excellent two for 15 from her 10 overs.

Middle-order pair Sarah Tsukigawa (31) and Nicola Browne (30) rescued their side with a 61-run stand for the sixth wicket, supplemented by Sara McGlashan's 25.

However, the world champions limited the visitors to 132 all out from 46.4 overs before chasing down the total with 17 overs and seven wickets in hand.

Lisa Sthalekar led the charge with an unbeaten 45, with support from opener Shelley Nitschke (27).
