Warne welcomes attack

Champion leg-spinner Shane Warne says England's more aggressive approach to him was the reason for his most successful ever Ashes campaign last year.

Rather than batting for survival, England's batsmen were now prepared to put Warne under the sword, and that's how the world's most successful bowler likes it.

"Where it used to be a lot harder to get wickets because they used to pad me away and try and wear me down, now they're trying to go after me, which is fantastic for me," Warne told The Australian.

"It means I might go for a few more runs, but more wickets and I get them quicker, which actually helps our cause."

Warne, who believes the past few years had been his best in the game, said the quality of international cricket had improved in recent years and attributed his form to his ability to stay relatively injury-free.

"The way cricket is evolving, the way cricket is played these days, very rarely do we now get a five-day Test match. And that's not because of poor cricket.

"The quality of cricket's improved."

While the start of this summer's Ashes series is still nearly three months away, Warne has already devised his plans for England's batsmen, including Test newcomer Alastair Cook.

"I know exactly how I'm going to bowl against the guys on the fringe of their side and the guys who are in their side," said Warne.

"I played against Cook in a one-day game (for Hampshire). I set a field and it actually worked, and that was just from looking at his (batting) grip."
