Warne's doctor wary of future

Shane Warne's 'spin doctor' Terry Jenner fears the champion leg-spinner will burn out within two years if asked to bowl too many overs in Test matches.

Warne recently sent down 85 overs to help Australia win the second Ashes Test against England in Adelaide, including 53 in the first innings and 27 in succession unchanged on the final day.

Jenner says that Australia needs to balance Warne's well-being with the need to make constant use of his match-winning skills.

"He will take any amount of bowling he can get, but if he's going to play until he's 40, he can't afford any more 80-over Tests. That's too much for anyone," Jenner told The Sunday Telegraph.

Jenner believes Warne cannot be asked to deliver a similar amount of overs in the third Ashes Test match beginning in Perth on Thursday without consequences to his body.

"What he did in Adelaide was a testament to his courage and stamina because he had to be hurting. It was a lot of overs for anyone to bowl, let alone a 37-year-old," Jenner said.

"People need to be aware he has had two shoulder operations and two operations on his spinning finger."

Needing six more wickets to become the first bowler in history to reach the 700-wicket milestone, Jenner said Warne had also recently raised the prospect of trying to reach 800 Test scalps.
