Warm-up defeat for BLACKCAPS

The BLACKCAPS began their World Cup match preparation with a two-wicket defeat to Bangladesh at Bridgetown’s 3Ws Oval.

Jacob Oram made 88 and Brendon McCullum 46 as the New Zealanders posted 226 batting first in Barbados.

Bangladesh quick Mashrafe Mortaza took four for 44, and Abdur Razzak four for 26, as the BLACKCAPS were dismissed two balls into the 48th over.

The Tigers reply successfully chased down their target with seven deliveries to spare.

Mortaza completed a good double with 30 not out - including three sixes and a four in 14 balls - after openers Javed Omar (45) and Tamim Igbal (46) impressed.

Daniel Vettori took three for 38 from his 10 overs.

The Kiwis’ group rivals England thrashed Bermuda by 241 runs in St Vincent, while Kenya lost to the hosting West Indies by 19 runs.

Canada, the other team in the BLACKCAPS’ Group C, lost to Pakistan by 77 runs.

The BLACKCAPS continue their preparations for the competition against Sri Lanka on Saturday (NZ Time).
