Vettori targets Lord's Test

BLACKCAPS captain Daniel Vettori is confident about returning to fitness ahead of the first Test against England at Lord’s

Vettori injured his finger backing up in the field during Essex’ first innings during the tour match at Chelmsford.

The all-rounder is wearing a protective plaster around his left fore finger and will not play against England Lions later this week.

"Obviously I'm disappointed I'm not out there playing - and I'm going to miss the second warm-up game," he said. But I'm confident of being ready for the first Test match.

“I backed it up and I took it awkwardly and gashed across the side of my left index finger.

"It's something I've never really seen in cricket before - all the balls I've caught it's never happened, and unfortunately it's happened out there.

"I've never seen it happen to anyone else in cricket - and the number of times guys catch cricket balls, it's amazing. But I'll just get on with it as best as I can."
