Central Districts opener George Worker made 98 helped the junior BLACKCAPS to 314 for nine.
Otago’s Nick Beard then took six wickets to check the reply at 133, despite 72 off 50 balls from full Ireland international Paul Stirling.
The New Zealanders play Zimbabwe in their opening match in Johor on Monday (18 February).
