Tight at the top of the Action Twenty20

Elbow space is becoming tight atop the Action Twenty20 cricket standings after fourth round matches today.

Canterbury Magicians suffered their first setback of the competition when going down by eight wickets to Wellington Blaze, leaving them to be joined on 12 points by the side from the capital and Central Hinds, today's other winners.

Canterbury were always up against it at Upper Hutt's Barton Oval once they were restricted to 103 for nine.

Lucy Doolan caused the major damage in claiming four for 10 before starring with the bat to make 37 off 34 balls as Wellington got home in less than 15 overs.

Auckland pipped Otago in a low scoring affair at Melville Park in Auckland, successfully defending their modest 89 by holding the visitors to 86 for nine, with Paula Gruber impressing with the ball to take three for eight.

International Sara McGlashan topscored with 48 as Central posted 145 for four at Fitzherbert Park in Palmerston North, a total beyond Northern Spirit, who were held to 95 for nine.
