Tendulkar close to full health

India coach Greg Chappell believes Sachin Tendulkar will be close to full fitness for a triangular one-day series in Sri Lanka.

The star batsman has not played since March because of a shoulder problem, missing a one-day series with England and a tour of the West Indies, but has been named in India's squad for the upcoming series.

"We are confident he will be, if not fully fit, so close to it that it will be satisfactory for everyone," Chappell told AFP before the team flew to Colombo.

"His fitness is improving everyday.

"I thought his batting during the (training) camp here was very good and we have not pushed him very hard at this stage with regard to his fielding, but he is improving every day.

India opens its campaign against the host nation on August 16, and will also take on South Africa in the three-nation tournament.
