Strauss hits timely ton

A century to England skipper Andrew Strauss in the third Test against Pakistan has set up an exciting final day at Headingley.

England was bowled out for 345 on the fourth day leaving Pakistan to chase down 323 for victory with a day to play.

Strauss was the star of the show for the hosts, the stand-in captain hitting 116 while wickets tumbled around him in two nervy sessions.

Marcus Trescothick chipped in with 58 and wicket-keeper Chris Read also proved his worth with a 55.

Heading into the fourth day on 0-3, England began convincingly and soon raced away to 158-0.

However, some brilliant bowling from Shahid Nazir (3-32) and Mohammad Sami (3-100) saw the hosts stumble late in the day.

After facing one over from Matthew Hoggard before stumps, Pakistan will resume on 0-0 on day five and will look to turn on a batting performance similar to that of its first innings when it compounded 538.

Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq will not be able to bat for approximately four hours on the final day, or until five wickets have fallen - whichever comes first.

The middle order batsman is suffering from inflamed rib cartilage after falling awkwardly when batting on Sunday and spent most of Monday off the field.
