Strauss denies rift

England batsman Andrew Strauss has downplayed suggestions there is a row over Andrew Flintoff's captaincy inside the team camp following a disappointing start to the Ashes.

According to newspaper The Australian, there is a rift inside the England camp between those favouring Strauss and those favouring Flintoff as the preferred skipper.

However, Strauss says he has no aim to dethrone Flintoff as the captain and he says the speculation is unfounded.

"We're all 100% behind Fred. He's done a very good job in some pretty trying circumstances in these last two games," he said.

"There are no divisions. I don't know where those stories are coming from."

Despite playing well for most of the recent Ashes Test in Adelaide, England was sent packing on the final day after a brilliant display of bowling from Shane Warne.

And although he conceded losing the Test was a dent to England's Ashes defence, Strauss said it was no blight on Flintoff's captaincy.

"We were all absolutely gutted after that second Test and I suppose rightly so because we didn't play the sort of cricket we needed to win the game or to draw it," he said.

"We're clear about what we have to do - we have to win at least two out of these last three and to do that we have to play positive cricket."
