Sri Lanka is on the verge of a big win over Bangladesh with two days remaining in the first Test at Chittagong.
Sri Lanka was all out for 338 in its first innings and then dismissed Bangladesh for 181 in its second innings. That left Sri Lanka needing 163 to win and by stumps it was 25 without loss.
Sri Lanka's lower-order succumbed to Hossain's bouncer assault with catches being provided to mid-wicket. Thilan Samaraweera being the first to fall on the day for 58 and Hossain taking three of the four wickets to fall and ending with 4-83.
Muttiah Muralitharan cut through the Bangladesh batting, celebrating his 100th Test match with a bag of 6-54.
He took 9-141 in the match and lifted his career tally of Test wickets to 593.
With spin in full cry, and the fieldsmen surrounding the bat, Muralitharan and Malinga Bandara went to work although the most significant breakthrough was achieved when an umpiring error broke the fifth-wicket stand of 53 runs when Khaled Mashud was deemed to have gloved a ball, when television evidence showed the ball had run up his side.
Muralitharan moved in for the kills and it took some lusty hitting by Mohammad Rafique, who scored 40, to take the Bangladesh lead beyond 150.
