Sir Jack Newman Award winner announced

Ross Parlane of Auckland has received the 2012 Sir Jack Newman Award from the New Zealand Cricket Foundation.

Mr Parlane will attend the annual NZC National Bank Awards Dinner where he will receive a trophy, formal certificate and $2000 to direct in to the area of grassroots cricket.

He was selected to receive the award for his outstanding service to club cricket in Auckland, where he has spent more than 38 years volunteering at the North Shore Cricket Club (NSCC).

NZC Development Manager, Mark Lane, said Mr Parlane richly deserved the recognition after such a lengthy period of dedicated service to grassroots cricket.

“Cricket clubs would struggle to function without the tireless work of devoted stalwarts like Ross Parlane,” said Lane.

“He has contributed to NSCC in a wide range of ways including the organisation of junior cricket tournaments, scoring premier matches, serving on the committee and proactively promoting the game.

“Ross is well-known to club cricketers in Auckland and is a popular choice for this distinguished award.”
