The BLACKCAPS and Sri Lanka share The National Bank ODI Series after the fifth and final match between the sides at Hamilton was abandoned without a ball delivered.
The teams also drew The National Bank Test and Twenty20 series last month, with the 50-over contest now shared at two games apiece.
Earlier, Stephen Fleming won the toss and elected to bowl first in pursuit of a series win at Seddon Park.
Home official Billy Bowden was due to stand in his 100th ODI, while veteran Sri Lanka all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya was to have played his 375th ODI, a world record.
The BLACKCAPS now head to Australia for the tri-series against the world champions and England.
The next match in New Zealand is the 1st ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee Series, against Australia, in Wellington on 16 February.
