Wellington Blaze are out for a repeat T20 title

Domestic schedule creates opportunities for women's players

New Zealand Cricket today announced the schedule for the women’s 2015/16 national domestic season, which will kick off on 27 November 2015 for the Auckland Hearts, Northern Spirit, Central Hinds, Wellington Blaze, Canterbury Magicians and Otago Sparks.

The One-Day and Twenty20 competitions will be played across six weekends, three matches played each weekend. Teams will play a Twenty20 on Fridays, before consecutive One-Day matches on Saturday and Sunday.

A four-week break after the opening round of the competition will allow a number of players to participate in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash, in Australia. All teams will then meet in Lincoln, which will host all round-two action, beginning 27 December.

Two outright finals will be played on 13 February and 14 February 2016, the two top-placed teams from each format meeting in the deciders.

With the WHITE FERNS' much-anticipated series against Australia at home set for the conclusion of the domestic competition, there will be no shortage of incentive for players to perform.

WHITE FERNS coach Haidee Tiffen says new players will have the opportunity to put their hands up for a spot.

“The domestic season will provide us with a great opportunity to get as familiar with the conditions as possible,” says Tiffen.

“It’s a chance for current WHITE FERNS to make sure they head in with form, but also an audition for new players to show what they can do.

“Home series against Australia don’t come around very often – every player wants to be a part of that.”
