Rosco ready for the challenge

He’s proved his worth with the willow for the BLACKCAPS during the recent Pakistan Test series and now he’s going to show what he can do in the shorter form of the game for the Central Stags.

Ross Taylor is an asset with the bat and he will be applying his skills during the HRV Cup. He’s looking forward to being part of the domestic side, with the immediate view of helping the Stags to the final and -  ultimately - gain a spot at the Champions League.

“Twenty20 is always enjoyable and competitive. Having the BLACKCAPS back and the quality of overseas players will bring a new dimension,” he said. “It’s going to be ten rounds of travelling the country and testing our skills, so it’s going to be good fun.”

Taylor is well versed in the shorter forms of the game: with close to 100 ODI and Twenty20 matches for the BLACKCAPS, as well as participating in the IPL in India. For him the Champions League is another opportunity to play Twenty20 in an international setting. “It would be great to go there with the Stags,” he said. ‘For some players who haven’t played international cricket this is a highlight in their careers. You get to play in front of 40,000 people and at some amazing grounds.

“You have to savour the experience.”

Taylor is taking a well deserved break between Christmas and New Year, but he will be firing on all cylinders for the HRV Cup. “I’m looking forward to being back in the team. I’ve got some great mates there and hopefully we can get some momentum in the Twenty20 competition and win the HRV Cup.”
