India's second Test with England was ruined by the rain again on day two.
Only 87 balls were bowled on the day and in that time England took its score from 163-4 to 200-5.
Andrew Flintoff was 26 not out while veteran Indian spinner Anil Kumble's dismissal of Paul Collingwood took him to 498 Test dismissals.
Prospects for later in the Test are not good with more rain forecast for Mohali.
England coach Duncan Fletcher told BBC Sport that a result is still possible in the time remaining when extended hours will be used.
"We've got to make sure we don't think the draw is on the cards and have to be careful. Whoever gets on top on day three will hold quite an advantage," he said.
However, he regarded England's position as precarious and says another 100 runs at least are required.
"We feel we've lost too many wickets, 200-2 would have been a very good score," he said.
"This stand [Flintoff and Geraint Jones] is important for us, hopefully they can get in. Jones has batted well with Flintoff on numerous occasions and they've put in some good partnerships.
"We have to get well over 300 and look at it from there," he said.
Fletches does not regret choosing only one spinner compared to India's three.
If the pitch breaks up he said a seam bowler might be just as effective.
Collingwood said there had been some reverse swing noticeable in the time played on the second day which he felt was a bonus for the England bowlers. But he also acknowledged the delivery that beat him from Kumble.
"All the Indian bowlers are good, but it is Kumble who is going to bowl the most number of overs, he is the one who we have to combat.
"He is a great bowler and tough to play on any wicket," he said.
