Proteas pound Pakistan

South Africa has overcome a mediocre batting display to topple Pakistan by 124-runs and book its place in the Champions Trophy semi-finals.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, skipper Graeme Smith soon rued the decision as the Proteas were reeling at 42-5.

However, star wicket-keeper Mark Boucher (69) proved to be the leading light for South Africa as he, along with Justin Kemp (64), help guide his side to 213-8.

Starting what was expected to be a reasonably easy chase, Pakistan stumbled early and never looked like regaining its composure.

At 47-8, Pakistan was staring down the barrel of certain defeat, an inevitable fate which came shortly after with it on 89 from 25 overs.

Proteas speedster Makhaya Ntini was the star of the show with rip-roaring figures of 5-21 off six overs.
