Proteas defeat Ireland

South Africa completed a seven-wicket victory over Ireland in the ICC World Cup Super Eight Series match at Georgetown’s Providence Stadium.

Heavy rain in Guyana restricted each team to a 35-over maximum innings, with Ireland batting first and posting 159 for eight.

Eoin Morgan (28), Niall O’Brien (25) and Andrew White (30) made starts, but Charl Langeveldt (three for 41) and Shaun Pollock (two for 17) thrived in the overcast conditions.

The Proteas completed a win inside 32 overs after contributions from Jacques Kallis (67 not out), Ashwell Prince (47no) and Graeme Smith (41).
