Ponting avoids fine

Ricky Ponting is doing his best to test the patience and resolve of cricket umpires around the world but he will not be sanctioned for his latest outburst.

Having already been fined twice in the past year for showing dissent, Ponting could have found himself in hot water on Friday night after having an 'animated discussion' with umpire Mark Benson in Australia's win over India in Kuala Lumpur.

Ponting appeared to get annoyed when Benson called Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar back to the crease after he had been given out caught.

"The umpire made his decision, he then reversed it and I think he actually got it right in the end," Ponting told Reuters.

"I can't talk much about the umpires' decisions anyway, but he explained the reason why and we just got on with it from there. I wasn't happy at the time but that was the decision."

Australia will play the West Indies in the tri-series final on Sunday after their 18-run win over India.
