ODI series cancelled

The slap-dash one-day international series between India and Sri Lanka has been called off after continued poor weather in Colombo.

Cricket officials of the two countries met amid concerns of a series with no play and made a decision to cancel the remaining matches.

Originally scheduled to be a tri-series also featuring South Africa, a bomb blast in Colombo last week saw the Proteas opt to leave the country, abandoning the series in the process.

Despite the latest disappointing news for Sri Lankan cricket fans, a spokesman for the country's cricketing body has confirmed that the series will take place next year instead.

"The tri-series featuring India and South Africa will be rescheduled some time in 2007," the source told the BBC.

Only 22 deliveries were bowled during the week as monsoon season made the chance of completing a match difficult, despite reserve days being put in place.
