OCA provide some post-quake relief

A goodwill gesture from Otago Cricket saw 17 Canterbury Cricket staff members and their families hosted for rugby Test match between the All Blacks and Fiji.

The theme of the Test match was to support the people of Canterbury following the devastating February earthquake with Otago Cricket Chief Executive Ross Dykes keen to get into the spirit of the occasion.

“For us it was an opportunity to provide our “mates” from Christchurch with the chance to get away for a weekend and have a bit of fun,” said Dykes.

“Despite the fact that the rugby was a bit one-sided, the weekend was a really enjoyable occasion and provided a great opportunity for both groups to share experiences and meet in a very informal and liquid environment.

“Even the Ranfurly Shield flying overhead sometime on Saturday evening didn’t detract from the spirit of the event,” Dykes joked.

Staff from Otago Cricket hosted each of the families in a weekend that included golf, shopping, rugby followed by a dinner on Saturday night.
