NZCT Girls’ Finals led by Palmerston North GHS and Havelock North HS

Palmerston North Girls’ High School and Havelock North High School remain joint leaders at the end of day three of the New Zealand Community Trust Girls’ Secondary School Cricket Finals.

Both teams had a win and a loss in rounds four and five at Manawaroa Park in Palmerston North and may still yet be caught by St Hilda’s College who have a game in hand and are only four points behind.

It leaves a tense fourth and final day ahead, with the three teams all neck and neck, while St Kentigern College also have an outside chance.

The closest match of the day was between St Hilda’s Collage and Palmerston North GHS. After 20 overs both teams were level on 114, leading to a bowl-off which St Hilda’s narrowly won. It was a pivotal game, which could well have allowed Palmerston North to run off with the competition had they won.

Individual performances of note during the day came from Hannah Rowe, who smashed 75 for Palmerston North to beat rivals Havelock North High School. The Central Hinds player showed what an asset she is, having knocked an unbeaten 41 in the previous round and bowled economically.

St Kentigern College’s Bhamini Rangnekar put in the bowling performance of the day, crippling Havelock North High School with figures of five for nine.
