NZC pay tribute to Graham Cowan

New Zealand Cricket has offered its condolences to the family Graham Cowan following his passing after a short illness, aged 71

Graham was a great servant of cricket in this country filling a number of roles including selector and treasurer for the West Coast Cricket Association, as an administrator with Auckland Cricket, as Chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association and more recently as Chairman of Northland Cricket.

As an umpire he stood in 46 First-Class matches from 1973 to1992 and officiated in five One Day Internationals between 1989 and 1991.

NZC National Umpire Manager Rodger McHarg said the thoughts of the all who knew and worked with Graham were with his family and friends at this sad time.

“It was an honour and privilege to have known and umpired with Graham.  His contribution and service to cricket, and umpiring in particular, must not be under estimated,” said McHarg.

“The New Zealand cricketing community extend their sympathies to his family and friends at this sad moment.”

His contribution as an administrator and umpire over many years will be up will be treasured.
