NZC announces new President and Director

Long serving New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Board Member and former Test cricketer Stephen Boock has been named as the new President of New Zealand Cricket.

His appointment was confirmed at the 118th Annual General Meeting, held in Wellington today. He succeeds Denis Currie who served the maximum three one-year terms as President.

Mr Boock was on the Board of New Zealand Cricket from 2002-2011 after concluding a seventeen-year First-Class playing career that included 164 matches. The left-arm spinner also played 30 Tests and 14 One Day Internationals for the New Zealand between 1978 and 1990.

He has a strong business background and is currently the Managing Director of W & W L Boock Ltd, Director of Foodstuffs and owner of Northlands Pak'n Save in Christchurch.

He has been heavily involved with an number of non-profit organisations, having formerly held the position of President of Otago Special Olympics, Chairman of NZ Foundation for the Blind “Life without sight” Appeal, Chairman of Otago Life Education Trust, and Patron of Otago Special Olympics. He is currently the Chairman of the Otago Special Olympics Trust.

The Board also appointed current Northern Districts Cricket Association Chairman Greg Barclay as a new Director replacing Brent King.

Mr Barclay has a background in commercial law and is a founding principal and director of the Claymore Partners Ltd.

He is a director of a number of New Zealand companies including the Canada/NZ Business Association and national sports marketing company The Experience Group. He is also a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

Mr Barclay is from originally from Gisborne and played representative cricket for the Poverty Bay Cricket Association.

Current NZC Board Chairman Chris Moller was re-elected after the NZC Board Selection Panel recommended that he retain his directorship.

Today’s AGM also awarded life memberships to former NZC President Denis Currie and former NZC Board Chairman Alan Isaac.
