An unbeaten double-hundred partnership between Adam Voges and George Bailey gave the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence XI a seven-wicket win over the New Zealand A Black XI at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field.
The New Zealanders, who needed victory to confirm a place in Friday’s tournament final, made 264 from their 50 overs.
(pictured) top-scored with 66. Peter McGlashan (47), openers (33) and (38) and tail-ender (25) were also in the runs.
The tourists had their hosts in a spot of difficulty at 65 for three, with Gillespie taking two wickets.
But centurions Voges (124 not out) and Bailey (105 not out) rescued their side, surpassing their target with the last ball of the 47th over.
New Zealand takes on India in the third place play-off at Sandgate on Friday.
The Cricket Australia side will contest the final with South Africa.
