Nottinghamshire in strife

Stephen Fleming's Nottinghamshire faces a battle to avoid outright defeat in the latest round of English county matches.

Chasing Hampshire's 401, Nottinghamshire was dismissed for 147. Fleming was trapped leg before wicket by Dimitri Mascarenhas for 10. In its second innings, Hampshire has raced to 148-1.

In Glamorgan's first innings of 470, James Franklin held the middle and lower-order together with 36 runs.

In its second innings Derbyshire was 206-7 with Franklin's eight overs so far wicketless at a cost of 27 runs.

Middlesex is close to taking the first innings advantage from Yorkshire. In reply to Yorkshire's 355, Middlesex is 322-5 with captain Scott Styris dismissed for 33.

In the match between Worcestershire and Somerset, two Worcester men with New Zealand connections, Graeme Hick and Ben Smith, completed a fifth-wicket stand of 330 runs.

Hick was finally dismissed for 203 while Smith fell for 182. Worcestershire was all out for 618 and Somerset was 199-3 in reply.
