New Zealand Cricket - Leadership Opportunities

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has a very proud history on the world stage since commencing test cricket in 1930. Cricket is recognised as New Zealand’s premier summer sport with over 100,000 participants and is one of the most popular sports in the world, generating huge television audiences globally.

The organisation has a strong vision to improve on-field and off-field performance with a mission to have more people playing and more people watching cricket while continuing to grow our revenue base. In addition, New Zealand is co-hosting the Cricket World Cup in 2015 and NZC’s strategic objectives include maximising opportunities from this event.

A decision has been made to establish a Support Services Office in Auckland, to ensure that we have the right structures in place to deliver on our key priorities. The Auckland office will include all commercial, marketing, finance, ICT, HR and supply chain / procurement functions.

NZC are looking for candidates with a strong passion for sport and cricket in particular, to take on key leadership roles that will enable the organisation to provide world class support to the sport. Proven experience in the sport sector would be relevant.

There are five roles available immediately:

Chief Operating Officer
This new Auckland based position will lead support services, commercial and marketing operations to grow revenue to secure the future of New Zealand Cricket. Deputising for the CEO and supported by a team of functional managers, you will bring a proven track record of leadership likely to have been honed in a previous COO or CEO role.

Head Of Cricket Operations
Reporting to the CEO, this new position will be based in Lincoln, Christchurch, with responsibility for all cricket operations. An inspirational leader with sound experience in sport, preferably cricket, this role includes responsibility for operational planning and logistics of international matches, cricket development, umpiring, turf management along with managing the interface with Major Associations and the ICC.

General Manager Commercial & Marketing
Based in Auckland and reporting to the COO, you will bring proven experience in a broad based marketing role with strong marketing expertise. This role will include NZC internal and external communications, advertising, events and hospitality, ticketing, gate receipts, broadcaster relations and contract negotiations, and other key stakeholder liaison/management. An in depth of knowledge of market research and customer segmentation; ticketing, broadcaster relations and understanding of event delivery will be required.

General Manager Sponsorship
Based in Auckland and reporting to the COO, you will be responsible for maximising sponsorship revenue for New Zealand Cricket. This will include direct engagement and negotiation with new and existing sponsors, as well as government and gaming funding sources. The ability to network, maintain relationships and understand sponsor requirements are key aspects of the role.

General Manager Finance
Reporting to the COO in Auckland, this role will lead the finance and ICT function, ensuring high quality, transparent and consistent reporting systems and processes. Technical strengths will be balanced with business acumen, inspirational leadership and a desire to work as part of a highly collaborative team supporting the success of New Zealand Cricket.

NZC - The General Manager High Performance

Cricket is recognised as New Zealand’s premier summer sport and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) as a world-leading sporting organisation.

Reporting to the Director of Cricket the focus of the position is to maximise the potential of individual elite cricket athletes by putting in place targeted individual performance plans, high performance programs and monitoring progress against world’s best performance.

The General Manager High Performance is responsible for ensuring key athletes are adequately resourced to be the best; this includes access to coaching, strength and conditioning, physiotherapy/medical services, mental skills development, and latest technologies to enhance elite performance.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A passion for cricket and maximising the performance of athletes
  • Excellent planning, organisational and administrative skills
  • Previous experience in facilitating the development of world-class athletes including the use of case management system's
  • An understanding of athlete development pathways (junior/senior/national)
  • Understanding of high performance models within a high performance sports environment
  • Understanding of core coaching principles
  • A high level of integrity and credibility within the game or sporting community
  • Ability to multi task and complete projects under changing conditions
  • An influential personality with a high degree of self-motivation
  • A willingness to be judged on results
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Sports management or coaching qualifications preferred
