New Zealand Cricket announces new directors and reappoints President

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) President Denis Currie has been reappointed and two new Directors, Don Mackinnon and Therese Walsh, have joined the NZC Board.

These appointments were confirmed at the 117th Annual General Meeting of New Zealand Cricket, held in Wellington.

New NZC Director Therese Walsh is currently working as the Chief Operating Officer for Rugby NZ 2011 Ltd, the company established by the New Zealand Rugby Union and New Zealand Government to deliver the Rugby World Cup Tournament.

A Chartered Accountant, she started her career as an auditor with KPMG before moving onto the role of Chief Financial Officer with the New Zealand Rugby Union and was part of the team which worked on the bid for New Zealand to host the Rugby World Cup 2011.

She has a strong interest in the international aid sector and having served on the Board of Save the Children New Zealand for several years has recently been appointed Chairperson of the Sustainable Development Fund Selection Panel. 
 
Don MacKinnon is a partner at specialist employment and human relations law firm Swarbrick Beck Mackinnon where he has represented and advised a number of sporting organisations including Emirates Team New Zealand.  He is also highly experienced in collective bargaining.

Mr Mackinnon was Netball New Zealand Chairman for a three year period and served on their Board for nine years spanning 1998 to  2007.  During his time with Netball New Zealand he Chaired a steering group that established the first professional netball competition and worked as a Director of World Championship Netball 2007 Ltd. 
 
He is currently serving on the Board of SPARC and its new subsidiary High Performance Sport New Zealand. He has retired from the Auckland Cricket Association Board to take up the position as NZC Director.

His has an interest in cricket that stems from his playing days with Ellerslie Cricket Club and coaching his children at Cornwall Cricket Club.  He also holds a level one coaching qualification.

Mr Currie was elected President in 2009 and will serve his final one-year term.  The NZC President can serve a maximum of three one-year terms.

The two new Director positions were created by the retirement by agreed rotation of Anne Urlwin and Stephen Boock, who were both unavailable to continue. Both Directors had served on the NZC Board since 2002.

His Excellency Lieutenant General The Right Honourable Sir Jerry Mateparae, Governor-General of New Zealand, succeeds The Right Honourable Sir Anand Satyanand GNZM, QSO as Patron of New Zealand Cricket.
