New board of New Zealand Cricket to be elected next week

New Zealand Cricket will have a new board of directors next week.

Eight recommended directors will be voted on by delegates representing all Major Associations and District Associations at a Special General Meeting in Auckland on 19 September. Each recommended director must receive more than 50 percent of the votes cast to be elected.

Next week’s vote is the result of a new constitution unanimously approved by the associations in July.

The eight recommended directors (brief biographies attached) are:

  • Geoff Allott
  • Greg Barclay
  • Neil Craig
  • Liz Dawson
  • Sir Richard Hadlee
  • Stuart Heal
  • Don Mackinnon
  • Martin Snedden

The eight were selected by an Appointments Panel headed by NZC President Stephen Boock, and comprising three Major Association chairs – Lachlan Muldowney (Northern Districts), Rex Smith (Auckland) and Murray Hughes (Otago), as well as Sport New Zealand nominee Sir John Wells.

Boock says there was strong interest in the positions due to the process being opened up to anyone who was interested. He was very pleased with the large group of people who wanted to contribute positively to NZC by putting their names forward.

“It was a difficult job selecting the eight candidates from a range of quality nominees. I am confident that through this thorough process we have found a group of people with the combined skillsets to drive cricket forward in this country.”

The guidelines used by the Appointments Panel were based on a skills and competencies framework approved by the associations earlier this year.

The Special General Meeting starts at 11am on Thursday 19 September at the Cornwall Cricket Club in Auckland.
