National Under-19 Tournament 2007/08: Round 3

Auckland maintained leadership of the National Under-19 Tournament after victory over Central Districts in the opening one-day stage.

Douglas Bracewell’s 83 was the backbone of the CD innings, moving his side to 223 for eight.

In reply, Shaun McCann made an unbeaten 86, in a 143-run stand with Michael Guptill-Bunce, who matched Bracewell’s score, to wrap up the win inside 44 overs.

A century from Hamish Rutherford helped Otago score their first win of the competition, a bonus-point triumph over Northern Districts.

Openers Rutherford and Michael Bracewell put on 144, Rutherford making 114 and Bracewell and Campbell Clark lodging half-centuries as their team put on a healthy 313/3.

ND were never in the contest after Samukh Pajanjpe took 3/24, and Peter Breen and Nick Beard both took two wickets each.

And although number eight Trent Boult scored 51 off 48 balls, the reply floundered at 166 in 38.3 overs. 

Wellington earned a bonus point with over Canterbury after bringing up an impressive 333/6.

Openers Harry Boam and Michael Pollard put on 178 for the first wicket, while Aaron Pennell and Fraser Colson then put on 93 for the third.

Canterbury was all out for 243 in 46.5 overs, opening bowler Ricky Joseph taking 3/44 and Sam Outtrim 4/46.

Central Districts 223/8 (Doug Bracewell 83, Alex Newland 3/39) lost to Auckland 224/4 (Michael Guptill-Bunce 83, Shaun McCann) by 6 wickets

Otago 313/3 (Hamish Rutherford 114, Mark Bracewell 53, Cameron Clark 52) beat Northern Districts 166 (Trent Boult 51, Samukh Pajanjpe 3/24) by 147 runs

Wellington 333/6 (Harry Boam 75, Michael Pollard 96, Fraser Colson 66, Aaron Pennell 52, Alex Rowe 3/64) beat Canterbury 243 (James O'Gorman 60, Sam Noster 56, Sam Outtrim 4/46, Ricky Joseph 3/44) by 90 runs
