National Under-19 Tournament 2007/08: Round 2

Auckland defeated Canterbury at Lincoln Green to ensure outright leadership of the National Under-19 Tournament after two rounds.

After completion of the first stage at Lincoln, Michael Guptill-Bunce produced a run-a-ball 85 not out to help Auckland to their win.

Canterbury started the day at 65/3 with an overall lead of 36 runs, but lost three relatively quick wickets.

They were steadied by a 96-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Nick Johnston and Matt Laffey, who scored 57 and 38 respectively.

But with that pairing broken, Canterbury slumped again to 175, leaving Auckland to get 147 to win.

Auckland lost only one wicket en route, with Guptill-Bunce and Shaun McCann (43 not out) putting on an unbroken 103 for the second wicket.

Dean Robinson's century for Central Districts at Lincoln’s No.3 Oval helped his side to victory against Northern Districts.

CD were 130/2 overnight, an overall lead of 50 runs, declaring 281/9, with Robinson supplying 101 and George Worker 80 in a 144-run stand.

Chasing outright victory, ND never gave up and in a dramatic finish the last pair were at the crease when 7 runs were needed but the innings ended when number 11 Trembath was lbw to Andy Dodd.

Cameron Clark's 97 for Otago against Wellington ensured a draw, with the capital province taking first-innings points.
