Morgan hat-trick boosts Under-19s

Auckland bowler Greg Morgan took a hat-trick as New Zealand Under-19s removed India cheaply in the first innings of the third Youth Test at Lincoln.

Having won the toss and elected to field at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, the home team backed captain Andre de Boorder’s decision well.

Morgan’s eventually finished with three wickets for 23 runs, with Tim Southee again leading the bowling figures with four for 48.

Dean Bartlett claimed the other wickets, for 33 runs, with Ajinkya Rahane top-scoring with 56.

The Kiwis’ reply stood at 116 for two when play ended early due to bad light, trailing by eight runs.

Jeet Ravel was unbeaten on 51, in partnership with skipper De Boorder (35not out).
