Message from Jesse Ryder

Update 5pm 31 March 2013:
Message from Jesse Ryder:
I just want to let everyone know that I'm ok.  I feel heaps better today but still really tired.  I've been reading your messages that have been sent so thank you to everyone for thinking of me over the last few days.

I want to thank everyone who has been caring for me at the hospital - they have been awesome.  Thank you to my family and friends who have been here also.

Message from Aaron Klee:
Now that Jesse is out of intensive care, we aren't planning on providing further updates in the media, as it is time for Jesse to focus on his recovery and getting back to full health.

Update 4PM 30 March 2013:
Jesse Ryder’s Manager Aaron Klee today released this statement:

Today Jesse's condition has improved to the extent that he is now out of the induced coma and off the ventilator.

Jesse is awake and talking to us, but he is obviously still working through the immediate effects from being in the coma and the drugs the medical team have been using.

Naturally we are thrilled with this progress.

This is only the start of the recovery process for Jesse and there is still a big battle ahead to full health, but the progress is positive.

Again the family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to everyone for their messages of support and love.  They mean a lot and will help Jesse no end in his journey ahead.

Aaron Klee

Update 5.00 PM 29 March 2013:
Speaking on behalf of Jesse Ryder’s family at a media briefing this afternoon, New Zealand Cricket Players' Association chief executive Heath Mills said, "Jesse is in a stable condition in intensive care.”

“He has been responsive and has been interacting with his family and the
medical team. “Jesse is still in an induced coma and still needing support with breathing
following an injury to his lungs. In terms of a head injury, it cannot be fully determined at this stage what
the effects of a knock to Jesse's head are. We will know more once he
comes out of the coma.”

Updated 6.00 pm 28 March 2013:
NZ Police have released the following statement following their press conference in Christchurch earlier this afternoon:

Christchurch Police investigating a serious assault on cricketer Jesse Ryder in Merivale last night are now reviewing CCTV footage from around the time of the incident.

Police are also continuing to call for witnesses, and for those involved in the incident to come forward and contact Police.

NZC statement from earlier today
“We are all shocked by what has occurred and extremely concerned for Jesse. New Zealand Cricket’s thoughts are with him and his family”, says NZC CEO David White.

David White, Peter Clinton from Cricket Wellington, Heath Mills from the New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association and Jesse’s manager Aaron Klee are currently flying to Christchurch to assist in any way they can.

It is likely they will hold a media conference in Christchurch this afternoon once they have ascertained the facts surrounding Jesse’s injuries and his current condition.
