McGrath to show coach

Star paceman Glenn McGrath is set to mark his return to cricket after six months in the wilderness.

The 36-year-old will demonstrate his fitness in front of national selectors this week in an arranged bowling session at nets in Brisbane.

McGrath has been out of action for half a year after withdrawing from the national side to look after his wife who has cancer.

"It will be a really good opportunity for him to get outdoors and have a bowl and we can get an assessment of where he's at," Australian coach John Buchanan told the BBC.

"He says he's been physically doing some good work with New South Wales so that's a good sign.

"He hasn't played for a little period of time so he's got some catching up to do there but all signs are very good for his return."

McGrath last played for Australia in a one-day international against Sri Lanka in Perth at the end of January before missing the subsequent tours of South Africa and Bangladesh.

However, his wife has given him her full backing and McGrath has identified October's ICC Champions Trophy in India as a potential place to make his comeback.
