McCullum to skipper Volts

Brendon McCullum will captain State Otago Volts on his return to the team after a four-year absence.

The BLACKCAPS wicketkeeper and vice-captain will replace his brother, all-rounder Nathan, for the first two rounds of the State Twenty20.

Regular Volts captain Craig Cumming also returns from Test duty to offer support.

Coach Mike Hesson said:  “Nathan McCullum has been doing an excellent job as captain during Craig Cumming’s absence and both Craig and Nathan will offer valuable support to Brendon taking on this new role.

“We are starting to develop a number of quality leaders in our squad and this is an opportunity to keep growing this group.

“Both Brendon and Alex Gidman have played a large number of Twenty20 matches in comparison to the rest of squad who performed so well last season, the experience they bring will be crucial to our performance during the State Twent/20 competition.”

Squad: Brendon McCullum (captain), Neil Broom, Craig Cumming, Derek de Boorder, Alex Gidman, Nathan McCullum,  Warren McSkimming, Aaron Redmond, Bradley Scott, Craig Smith, Greg Todd, Nic Turner.
