Martyn set to say sorry

Cricket Australia will contact Indian Cricket Board president Sharad Pawar to ensure he knows there was no 'disrespect' intended when he was grabbed and ushered off stage by Damien Martyn during the ICC Champions Trophy presentation.

Australian cricket's governing body has also not ruled out a penalty for Martyn for his part in the incident, with CA operations manager Michael Brown to compile a report on the matter.

"It is really disappointing because I know our players have nothing but the utmost respect for India as a country and the Indian people," CA chief executive James Sutherland told The Daily Telegraph.

"Perhaps sometimes these things can happen between different cultures but I do note Mr Pawar has said publicly or he has been quoted that he didn't take any offence from that."

"We draw comfort from that but I don't think it stops us from being obliged to make contact with him and ensure he understands no disrespect was intended."

Martyn has since apologised for his actions, which former captain Dilip Vengsarkar labelled 'appalling', saying: "I didn't mean to offend him and I apologise if I did so. There was nothing in it other than me trying to help him out as there was a crush of people."

But the man at the centre of the issue said that he has no major concern with what happened on the presentation stage.

"It was a small thing, a stupid thing," he said. "I don't want to react."
