Lucy Doolan enjoying County Cricket

White Fern Lucy Doolan is among a group of New Zealand international and domestic players to head to the Northern Hemisphere during the New Zealand winter.

Doolan will join the Kiwi women for their tour of the UK early next week, along side current fellow UK based women’s players Aimee Watkins, Sian Ruck and Rachel Priest, but for now she is busy representing Nottinghamshire.

Doolan is enjoying the challenge of playing in England. Her side has played three county games, with one win and two tight losses. “The losses were rather heartbreaking as we were well placed to win both! The first game against Yorkshire we needed three runs off the last over with three wickets in hand... they ended up getting a hat-trick and we lost,” she said. “What are the chances?”

She’s also spending some time passing on her cricketing knowledge to the next generation. “I have been doing coaching work in the city primary schools which has been good fun.”

Her White Fern team mates head off from New Zealand on Thursday and she said she is looking forward to spending some time with familiar faces and voices. “The girls get in next week so I am looking forward to company that means not having every word I speak repeated back to me in mockery of the beautiful Kiwi accent,” she laughed.

She’ll rejoin Nottingham after her international duties and will stay in the UK until September, before heading back to New Zealand to prepare for the 2010/11 domestic season. However her goal before returning home is to see some more of the world. “I really want to get to Egypt or Croatia,” she said.
