Legend returns for HRV Cup

After two years in retirement, former BLACKCAP and international cricket legend Craig McMillan has returned to the domestic scene for the Canterbury Wizards.

He’s back in the team for the HRV Cup and is looking forward to getting some big scores within the shorter form of the game. “It good to be getting back out there and playing for Canterbury,” he said “I was interested in playing the Twenty20 format. It suits my style and thought I’d give it a crack.”

He was approached by Lee Germon from Canterbury Cricket to be part of the Wizards once more, and with Bob Carter as coach, McMillan couldn’t say no. “Bob was the Assistant BLACKCAPS coach when I was in the team and I really enjoy working with him.”

He’s also looking forward to getting know some of the younger players in the team and spend some time reminiscing about the golden days with some of his former BLACKCAP team mates. “There’s a good mix of young and old guys. With myself and Chris Harris the older one and the good young talent like Corey Anderson, I think we’ve got a strong team.”

McMillan was known for his handy work with the bat and occasionally with the ball on the international stage, and he is starting to get excited about what opportunities the HRV Cup may bring for him. “There’s a real buzz about the HRV Cup this year. There are big rewards if we win, and although there is a lot of pressure within the competition there’s also a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to some good weather and good crowds.”
