BLACKCAPS left-armer James Franklin has returned to New Zealand for knee surgery.
Franklin had been set to join county championship side Glamorgan but an operation was advised after a precautionary scan in South Africa.
The all-rounder had enjoyed a strong season and a good run of form of bat and ball for the BLACKCAPS and State Wellington Firebirds.
He scored a maiden First-Class double century and a maiden Test hundred during 2005/06, taking 29 Test wickets against Zimbabwe, the West Indies and the Proteas.
Glamorgan chief executive Mike Fatkin said: "We're bitterly disappointed, naturally. James was due to fly over this week and the intention was that he would have a practice on Friday and make his debut against Sussex at Sophia Gardens on Sunday.
“His girlfriend is already over and everything was in place. We were particularly looking forward to him joining us as he's been in such good form for New Zealand recently. I know James himself is very disappointed.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and hope there will be an opportunity for him to come over to play for Glamorgan some time in the future.”
Glamorgan has already lost Australian trio Matthew Elliott, Michael Kasprowicz and Mark Cosgrove.
Franklin had not yet been officially registered with the Welshmen, allowing them to seek a replacement.
