Keenan on board with Hearts

Former White Fern Katrina Keenan will pair up with her ex-teammate and captain Maia Lewis this coming season as co-coach for the Auckland Hearts.

Keenan (nee Withers) was a White Fern player for seven years between 1994 and 2001, and was part of the famous World Cup winning side that downed Australia in a dramatic final.

Of late she has been involved as a player/coach with the Japanese women's team while living in that country for the last four years and has previously had involvement with the White Ferns in a variety of capacities.

Now back living in New Zealand Keenan is delighted to be able to get straight back into coaching alongside Lewis.

"It's really exciting to be working with someone I've known and respected for such a long time. And the chance also to coach a group of women who I believe have real potential is something I'm really looking forward to."

Lewis is likewise enthusiastic about having her former teammate on board.

"Katrina has got a huge amount to offer the Hearts and we're delighted that she's now part of the team. She's got a wealth of knowledge to share, and I think that she and I can work really well together."

Keenan played 54 internationals for the White Ferns taking 70 wickets at an average of 17.82.

Keenan and Lewis will share the coaching responsibilities equally over the course of the domestic season.
