Younis Khan has been named as the Pakistan captain for the upcoming Champions Trophy in India following incumbent skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq's four-match ban.
The 28-year-old has captained Pakistan in the past for two Tests and two one-day-internationals.
"It is a great honour," he told the BBC.
Inzamam, meanwhile, has been Pakistan's first-choice captain since 2002 but he will only be eligible to play in the Champions Trophy, his side reach the final.
"This current team is a well-knit side," said Khan. "If we play to our potential, we can do well."
Pakistan begins its Champions Trophy campaign against a qualifying team and it will also face New Zealand and South Africa in Group B.
