New Zealand Cricket (NZC) today announced that Justin Vaughan has decided to step down from his role as CEO at the end of November. Vaughan was appointed to the role at the beginning of 2007.
Vaughan has cited two main reasons for his departure; the need for NZC to have a CEO who will commit through to the co-hosting of the Cricket World Cup of 2015, and the intense travel requirements of the role, which is not ideal with a young family. Vaughan said, “It’s been a hard decision to make but I’m certain it’s the right time for me to explore new opportunities. I have loved the role and have been privileged to serve New Zealand Cricket”
In thanking Vaughan for his contribution NZC Chairman Chris Moller said “Justin can be proud of his achievements. These include growing NZC’s revenue by 60%, negotiating a long term partnership with our professional player’s association, securing a very positive international programme for New Zealand from 2012 to 2020, overseeing strong growth in participation numbers, as well as putting in a new structure for elite cricket with the appointment of John Buchanan as Director of Cricket and John Wright as BLACKCAPS’ Head Coach.
“I know Justin is highly regarded by his international colleagues and has been very effective and influential in terms of his work with the ICC and cricket CEOs around the world. He will be missed both nationally and globally.”
These comments have been endorsed by Haroon Lorgat the CEO of ICC. “It is always a loss to the game when top people leave. Justin has been a good thinker and positive contributor for both New Zealand Cricket and at ICC meetings. We are sad to see him depart but sincerely wish him well for his future endeavours.”
NZC will start an immediate process to replace Vaughan.
