Napier Boys High School 152/9 (O Beale 37, A Rawnsley 37, A Palenski 4-18) lost to Auckland Grammar School 156/1 off 31.2 overs (R Singh 60*, P Kharel 60), Fitzherbert Park 1
Napier Boys hoped to continue their winning streak leading into the second day of the Junior Secondary Boys tournament. After losing the toss they were put into bat and were in early trouble with the quick loss of two wickets for only 20 runs. Auckland Grammar’s bowler Astin Palenski, showed why he was selected for his side taking the first wicket followed by three more for just 18 runs. Andrew Rawnsley once again shone for the Napier side putting up a 62-run partnership with teammate Oliver Beale to take their side to 152/9. In response Auckland Grammar's openers Robinjot Singh (60*) and Pawan Karel (60) combined to put on a 116-run partnership. This then provided the perfect launching pad for captain Tom Jones (15 off 17) to bring the Auckland side home with 8.4 overs to spare.
St Patrick’s College Silverstream 238/4 off 40 overs (M Bassett 129, R Jayakuru 46, L Jones 2-28) beat John McGlashan College all out 169 off 32 overs (S Cavanagh 62, L Barron 28, L Hansen 4-12), Fitzherbert Park 2
After coming off a loss in yesterday’s game, St Patrick’s Silverstream were hunting for a win against their South Island counterparts. Captain and opening batsman Max Bassett (129) certainly knew what he wanted delivering a commanding performance, scoring a sensational century. This left a solid foundation for Rakith Jayakuru to add 46 runs to the team’s total. After dismissing Bassett, John McGlashan's Leo Jones went on to take another wicket for 28 runs. With a target of 238, John McGlashan knew the chase would be a challenge. Liam Barron (28) and Simon Cavanagh (62) high scored for their team but the fierce bowling defence left them short. Lucas Hansen was the pick of the St Pat’s bowlers finishing with four wickets for only 12 runs.
Christ’s College 181/8 off 40 overs (B Laing 59*, L Kelly 34) beat Tauranga Boys’ High School 155 all out in 37.1 overs (L Scrimgeour 36, H Shore 4-19), Manawaroa Park 6
Winning the toss, Christ’s College opted to bat on the second day of the Junior Secondary Boys tournament. Opener Benjamin Laing shone posting a useful 59* while Lucas Kelly fought for some extra runs adding 34 to the team’s total. Tauranga didn’t help themselves, gifting Christ’s 38 runs in extras. Tauranga’s captain Luke Scrimgeour had a good crack in reply posting 36 for his team, with Dylan Henderson helping to up the score putting on 26 runs. Christ’s however were dominant in the field as they bowled Tauranga out for 155 runs in 37.1 overs, Hunter Shore was economical with ball and came out with the game’s best bowling figures taking four wickets for 19 runs.
