Auckland Grammar School remain undefeated after beating Tauranga Boys' College in Round Three of the Junior Secondary Boys tournament. Tauranga Boys' College, winning their first toss, elected to bat, however after a good start from opener Aryan Aryal (21), the rest of the team couldn't support him, scoring in single digits, except team high scorer and captain Luke Scrimgeour adding a much needed 23 runs to the teams total. Grammar’s Gisha Rathnayaka was instrumental in their success taking an impressive three wickets for 10 runs. Robinjot Singh once again stood out with the bat for Auckland Grammar in their run chase, making 37* runs. Aashan Weerasinghe also stood out with the bat with a useful score of 37 for Auckland, resulting in Auckland Grammar School reaching their target with 16.4 overs to spare. Auckland Grammar moves on to Round Four undefeated.
St Patrick’s College Silverstream 190/9 off 40 overs (H Raynor 44, R Jayakuru 37, H Shore 4-36) lost to Christ’s College 192/5 off 37.1 overs (F Huston 37*, F McCormack-Young 30), Fitzherbert Park 2
St Patrick’s Silverstream have come off second best after posting a very competitive 190/9 against the strong Christ’s College side. Harrison Raynor had yet another fiery day, posting a handy 44 runs, hitting the boundary six times. Rakith Jayakuru helped bring the St Patrick’s College score up posting an extra 37 runs. Hunter Shore taking a stellar four wickets for 36 runs. Christ’s College reached their target only losing five wickets with 2.5 overs to spare. Captain Felix Huston once again putting on a show scoring 37*, while Finn McCormack-Young scored 30. St Patts will look to secure tomorrow’s game against Napier Boys’ High School in order to have a shot at gold.
Napier Boys’ High School 123 all out off 30.2 overs (D Geange 21, L Barron 3-21) beat John McGlashan 122 off 39 overs (J Deverax-Kilpatrick 35, S Cavanagh 29, J Wilson 3-4), Manawaroa Park 6
In the closest game of the tournament yet, Napier Boys' secured a win by one-run against Otago's, John McGlashan College. Napier Boys’ High School elected to bat first and were in early trouble with the top order not being able to make an impact with the bat. Coming in at number 10, Daniel Geange was Napier’s saving grace, adding a much needed 21 runs to the teams total of 123. John McGlashan’s captain Liam Barron was a weapon with the ball, slowing down the strong Napier side and taking three wickets for 21 runs. In reply, the John McGlashan Boys had their sights set on what looked to be a comfortable score to chase. Opener Joseph Deverux-Kilpatrick posted 35 runs while the rest of the top order never quite managed to make it past double digits. Simon Cavanagh changed that, adding another 29 to their team’s total. Despite having a good base, Jonty Riley (14) unfortunately didn’t get the support needed to reach their target, falling short by just two runs and being bowled out for 122. Notably, Jack Wilson, took a tournament best three wickets for four runs, aiding in Napier slowing John McGlashan’s chase.
