Tauranga Boys’ College 184/6 off 40 overs (L Scrimgeour 48, B Ramsden 35*, J Riley 34) lost to St Patrick’s College Silverstream 187/6 off 36.5 overs (R Jayakuru 68*, B Roberton 5-24), Fitzherbert Park #1
Tauranga Boys’ College were unable to gain some much-needed tournament momentum in today’s game against St Pats. Batting first, the Tauranga openers were dismissed early. Luke Scrimgeour begun picking up the pace putting 48 on the board, teammates Billy Ramsden (35*) and Jake Riley (34) helped bring the total to 184/6. The strong Wellington side responded well with the pick of the batters, number four - Rakith Jayakuru who toiled away for 68* off 80 balls. The Tauranga bowling performance was spearheaded by Bryn Roberton who finished with the best bowling figures of the tournament taking an impressive 5-24.
Christs’s College all out for 129 off 35.1 overs (B Nation 32, M Field 4-16) lost to Napier Boys’ High School 130/8 (M Field 29), Fitzherbert Park #2
In the tournaments closest game, Napier Boys High School, pipped powerhouse Christ’s College on the final ball. Christ’s openers were sent off early in the innings leaving Benji Nation to pick up the batting effort. Despite Nation’s 32 runs, Christ’s were struggling with a quick succession of wickets. Napier Boys’ sensed this and were hungry for the win with Monty Field taking a stunning four wickets for just 16 runs. In reply, Napier’s innings started off slow, loosing the top three batsmen to only single digit scores. Monty Field once again carrying the team, putting on a useful 29 runs. With a few overs left and their ninth and tenth batsmen at the crease, Napier knew they would really need to dig deep to pull this game out of the bag. Saved by a few dropped catches, Napier required one run on the final ball to take their team to victory, and victory was theirs indeed, a nail-biting finish to secure them a shot at placing in the Junior Secondary Boys tournament.
John McGlashan College 135 all out off 38.5 (J Deverax-Kilpatrick 28, H Sixton 3-27, M Brdanovic 3-27) lost to Auckland Grammar School 136/2 (P Kharel 49*, M Alpe 40) Manawaroa Park #6
John McGlashan have come off second best in their fourth match up of the Junior Secondary Boys tournament against Auckland Grammar School. Winning the toss, John McGlashan put themselves into bat but couldn't push on to a big score. The standout batting performance came from Joseph Deverax-Kilpatrick (28) with the team posting 135 in 38.3 overs. Auckland Grammar had a stellar partnership of 116 between Pawan Kharel (49*) and Marco Alpe (40), reaching their target in 22.5 overs. The Auckland powerhouse now move into the final day with a shot at winning the tournament.
