Wellington Boys 59-3 off 15.5 overs (Z Pearson-Harkness 13*, A Fisher 3-10) beat Tauranga Boys 57 all out off 24 overs (L Fitzgerald 12, K Irwin 3-15), Manawaroa Park
Wellington Boys’ claimed victory in their first game of the Junior Secondary Boys National Tournament, after producing a dominant display with the ball. Arlo Fisher (3-10) and George Gray (3-12) led the way for the Wellingtonians, taking 3 important wickets apiece, and eventually bowling Tauranga Boys’ out for just 57 runs. WC made short work of the chase, reaching the required total in just 15.5 overs.
St Andrew’s College 80 all out off 30.5 overs (J Sidey 24, J Farrelly 2-7) lost to Napier Boys’ High School 83-4 off 21 overs (C Pitey 32, H Beale 3-24), Fitzherbert Park 1
Napier Boys’ High School also put together a complete performance with the ball to set up a win against St Andrew’s College. St Andrews’ openers navigated the first 10 overs without loss, before a run-out changed momentum. Harry Beale (3-24) was impressive with the ball, ably supported by Lucas Jenyns, Luke McNally, and Eli Rasmussen – all picking up two wickets each. Jack Sidey (24) offering the best resistance for STAC. NBHS made short work of the chase thanks to cameos from wicketkeeper Carter Pitie (32) and Harry Beale (21*).
Auckland Grammar School 261-3 off 40 overs (N Mackay 74, N Mackay 3-12) beat John McGlashan College 43 all out in 16.1 overs (), Fitzherbert Park 2
Auckland Grammar School have kick started their campaign with an emphatic victory over John McGlashan College. A 148-run opening stand between Jacob Burt (60) and Noah Mackay (74) gave AGS an outstanding platform to help push their total. Matauas Thomson (49) and Ben Lucas (30*) kept the runs flowing, eventually seeing their side to 261 runs off their 40 overs. In response, the JMC innings was unable to gain any momentum, with wickets falling regularly including three run outs. Noah Mackay (3-12) capped off his batting efforts with three wickets, while Josh McNaughton (2-5) showed class with the new ball.
