Jones axed from squad

England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones has been dropped for the upcoming third Test against Pakistan.

England selectors have recalled Chris Read to replace an out of sorts Jones, who had made 31 consecutive Test appearances.

Jones is currently also under an injury cloud after suffering a hairline fracture on his right ring finger.

However, team management has made it clear that the fiery gloveman's ousting is based on form and not injury.

"The selectors feel this is the right time to make a change," Chairman of selectors David Graveney told BBC Sport. "Geraint has kept very well this summer, but he has been short of runs."

The third Test starts at Headingley later in the week with England 1-0 up in the four-Test series.

Twenty-seven-year-old Read has had two previous stints in the national side but was dropped in April 2004 during the West Indies tour for Jones to make his debut in Antigua.

However, the Nottinghamshire player has put pressure on Jones this season, scoring 601 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 42.92, with three centuries.
